Chandigarh celebrates Eid with fervour
The city revelled in the festive spirit of Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday. The festival,celebrated on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal,marks the end of fasting during the month of Ramzan. Hundreds of devotees thronged Jama Masjid in Sector 20 and other mosques in Sector 45 and Manimajra to offer prayers. Cutting across religious lines,people greeted each other on the occasion and exchanged gifts. The festive joy was palpable,especially among children,who were looking forward to celebrate the festival. I will be going to my friends place where we would be celebrating Eid, said Shahnawaz (8),a resident of Sector 19. It is a good way to bring out the feeling of brotherhood among people from different religions. I will be celebrating along with my neighbours who are Hindus, said Mohammed Anwar,a resident of Sector 15.
Mohali joins the celebrations
MOHALI:Religious fervour and gaiety marked Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Mohali,Kharar and other parts of the district. Dressed in colourful attires,people thronged mosques and idgahs to offer namaz. They were also greeted by members of other communities.
Muslim Front greets residents of tricity
The United Progressive Muslim Front extended their greetings to residents of the tricity on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The members of the Front emphasised the importance of Eid-ul-Fitr and stated that the occasion is a reminder of the values of Islam including compassion,charity,cooperation and commitment. Convenor of the Front Arshad Khan said Eid is the time for praying,contemplating and reflecting and also a time to remember those who are less fortunate.
