Action against 36 nursing students of PGIMER for not attending programme on PM Modi’s 100th Mann Ki Baat episode

The letter says that as per the instruction of the director, PGI, the message was conveyed to the students and the hostel coordinator that it is compulsory for the first and third year students to attend the special programme on the 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat. As per the letter, a warning was issued that the “outing of those students who do not attend the lecture would be cancelled” and despite a reminder during the night and morning rounds of the hostel, 36 students didn’t attend the programme.

According to Dr Kaur, the action has been taken to maintain discipline as students are required to attend many guest lectures which are organised in the department on a regular basis and said it is a disciplinary action and has not been taken because they did not attend the particular programme.

Dr Kaur added, “Everyone in the Institute works as a team, with all sincerity and it is unfortunate that this action is being misunderstood and misinterpreted.”

Meanwhile, Manoj Lubana, state president of Chandigarh Youth Congress, in a statement, described the issue as a “dictatorial decision”. He said the intention of the PGI is to punish and harass the 36 girl students and claimed that the action has been taken against the students under pressure from the administration.

He further said that if this decision impacts the academic life of the students in the future, the Youth Congress will not sit silent and will protest on a large scale.
