Keeping in view that students of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) are unable to continue their academics beyond Class VIII,the Education department is all set to help them study till Class X under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Yojana.

Earlier, under the SSA scheme, students were provided with elementary education but with the implementation of the new plan, students will be eligible to opt for secondary education as well.

Apart from providing education to these students at a higher level, the plan will also prepare them for various working fields.

Director Public Instructions (Schools),Samwartak Singh, said: “The minimum qualification required for any job is matriculation. Since SSA allows students to study only till class VIII,we found students facing a lot of problems. They did not know what to do next. Most of those who were keen to work and support their families could not do so because they lacked the minimum criterion. That is why we decided to broaden the spectrum.”

Having worked on the project, the Administration has tabled the proposal to the MHRD and are waiting for the allocation of budget The infrastructure will have to be worked upon as we will require more teachers and furniture. All this will be looked into once the proposal is approved by the MHRD,he said.

Over 100 government schools across the city will be covered under the new scheme. The department plans to implement it by the year 2010.
