In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Ambala division has started a staff compliant redressal system through short message service (SMS). To ensure welfare of the railway staff,on the field as well as in offices, the SMS complaint and suggestion system was kicked off recently.

Employees can complain or share their suggestions by sending an SMS to 9229532650. According to railway authorities, the redressal of staff grievances will be ensured within five days.

This system was initiated by former Divisional Railway Manager (DRM),H K Jaggi, who completed his tenure on February 4.

“The redressal system is working well. The department is receiving regular suggestions and complaints from the staff and a special committee of senior officers has been constituted to reply to them in due course of time,” said the newly-appointed DRM Y P Singh.

The project is an extension of the system that already exists for passengers. The complaint number for passengers is 9717630982,and it was widely publicised by displaying information boards at prominent places in each station,as well as through other media.

One,however, cannot make a call on these numbers but only use them to send SMS. “Some people have been complaining that they cannot connect to these numbers. The numbers are not accessible for calls but only for SMSs,” said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Karan Singh.
