In many ways, first time filmmaker and renowned choreographer Remo DSouzas F.A.L.T.U reminds one of Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. Not that its a remake, but the theme is the same: the triumph of the underdog. With a grand opening at Rs 10 crore and counting, this understated film with a relatively fresh cast managed to roll eyeballs at the box office, leaving Abhishek Bachchan,Sarah Jane Dias and Kangna Ranaut starrer Game slightly behind. To be honest,I was suprised with the grand opening because this industry is completely star driven, and our film only had a bunch of newcomers, says DSouza at PVR,Centra Mall in Industrial Area.
Inspired by the burgeoning population of children who struggle for grades and marks,F.A.L.T.U,says DSouza, stands for Fakirchand Lakirchand Trust University,an institution that allows admission to those, whose scores are between 35 and 60 per cent marks. These are the faltu students, children who have been written off for they are not A graders. Its the story of their struggle and how they too have the potential to do something brilliant, says DSouza.
Along with DSouza, actors Jackky Bhagnani and Pooja Gupta were also present to promote the film. Bhagnani may have been heart broken after his first release Kal Kisne Dekha that crashed at the Boxoffice, but he is reveling in the attention that he has received through this one. Although we tried to cater to people of all age groups through this movie, yet the youngsters have shown an exceptional response. It gives me utmost pleasure to know that our creation has brought smiles to the faces of our audience, says Bhagnani.
Talking about his debut directorial venture choreographer DSouza says,While doing choreography,I used to guide dance sequences only, but now I need to manage dialogues, movements and situations alike, says DSouza.
