The visiting Oman team suffered defeat in their first outing as they lost to North Zone by two wickets in a thrilling match of the 1st Rajiv Gandhi All India Inter Zonal Under-15 National League Cricket Championship.

The visiting Oman team suffered defeat in their first outing as they lost to North Zone by two wickets in a thrilling match of the 1st Rajiv Gandhi All India Inter Zonal Under-15 National League Cricket Championship for the Royal Empire Cup held at the Tau Devi Lal stadium,Sector 3,on Friday. Yugneek played a defiant knock of 45 to help the North Zone record win.

Earlier,the Oman team batted first and were restricted to 109 in the stipulated 25 overs. Gayansh top scored for the team with 37 runs off 67 deliveries. The North Zone bowlers bowled well to restrict the visiting team on a modest total. However,they also conceded 25 extra runs which helped the Oman team swell their total. Vishwas Khatak and Amit Dhiman picked up two wickets each.

North Zone received a couple of early blows while chasing as they were reduced to 13 for 2 in the second over. Yugneek and Shivam Arora partnered to steady the innings with a partnership of 34 runs. Yugneek top scored with 45 runs off 62 deliveries.

The match came down to North Zone needing 10 runs in the last two overs with two wickets in hand. Piyush Arora and Amit Dhiman held their nerves and saw the team through. In another match,Kanwaljeet Singh picked up four wickets to help Cricket Federation XI beat South Central Zone narrowly by two runs.

Batting first,CFI XI scored 134 runs in 20 overs. Rohit Chaudhary was the highest scorer with 44 runs off 34 deliveries. Akhil took three wickets. In reply,South Central got off to a flier as openers Raj and Rajath scored 31 quick runs in just three overs. Rajath scored 52 off 46 balls. Kanwaljeet Singh’s leg spin bowling proved too much to handle for the batsmen as they threw their wickets cheaply. South Central were bowled out for 132 runs in the final over as the last batsman was run out. In the third match,buoyed by a superb knock of 49 by Vishnu,South Zone thrashed Sri Lanka by 87 runs. Batting first,South Zone posted 187 for 9 in 20 overs. In reply,Sri lanka were bowled out for 100 in 16.6 overs. In the last match,an all-round performance by Vishwas Khatak (2 for 10,27 runs) helped North Zone beat West Zone by 45 runs. Batting first,North Zone were all out for 116 in 20 overs. Sindhia picked up four wickets. In reply,West Zone were bundled out for 71 in 18.4 overs.
