No lessons learnt,parking lot in Sector 22 continues to be choked

Though the Municipal Corporation has a large number of norms laid down for parking contractors,a random check of parking lots shows these are rarely followed. Attendants have been found allowing more vehicles into lots than designated.

According to the norms laid down by the MC,the vehicles should be parked as per the lots available and attendants should wear proper uniforms.

Other proposals like starting a token system at parking lots and painting them using reflective paints to make them visible at night also remain on paper.

In the numerous checks conducted by the parking committee of the MC,it has been found that the lots need to be cleared in order to ensure easy movement of fire brigades. Though challans have been issued,no concrete action has been taken.

Recently,three nominated councillors M P S Chawla,Pallav Mukherjee and Arshad Khan conducted checks and submitted a report on the violations. The report stated that action should also be initiated against the concerned officials responsible to keep a check on the contractors.

Chawla,who was authorised last year to conduct checks in the parking lots,said: “We had conducted numerous checks last year. Not much change is,however,visible. There is a need to take strict action against the defaulters.”
