Even as the Congress high command is yet to make any announcement on change of guard in the state unit of the party, the social media was flooded with congratulatory messages for Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh for being appointed as PPCC president.
Both Amarinder and incumbent state president Partap Singh Bajwa’s camps denied any such development.
Roxy Brar, the political secretary of IYC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, even posted on his Facebook that Amarinder would be the next president and Bajwa would be made AICC secretary.
Senior leaders in Delhi said the decision was likely within this week.
Refusing to name anybody who could be the next PPCC president, they said the party would take a decision after studying the mood of public in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Amarinder is leaving for Delhi tomorrow and has sought meetings with both AICC president Sonia Gandhi as well as vice-president Rahul Gandhi. He is learnt to be preparing to seek autonomy if he is to be handed over the reins of the party.
