In all probability the most celebrated legend regarding pearls was about Cleopatra,the Queen of Egypt. Pearl played a pivotal role in convincing Rome that Egypt possessed legacy and affluence that put it above conquest. She is said to have bet Mark Anthony that she could host the most luxurious party. To do so,the queen sat with an empty plate and a goblet of wine. She dissolved a large pearl from a matching pair of earrings and drank it.
This oldest known gem has been revered for centuries and has unsurpassed folklore. The Persian legend holds that the pearl is created at the point where rainbow and earth convene. Early Romans believed that the pearls were created when a drop of rain penetrated the heart of the oyster. Pearl has been referred as ‘The Teardrops of Moon’. Five months,including February,claim it as its birthstone. Pearls have been associated with chastity,authority,valor and humility.
