Classical music is the guru of all genres of music or you can also say that the sweet and melodious classical music has given birth to all the other styles of music, says well-known vocalist from Dehradun,Rupinder Kaur,who is in Chandigarh to participate in the 35th Chandigarh Sangeet Sammelan being organised by Indian National Theatre from October 26 to 28 at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan,Sector 27. The Sammelan will see performances by Piu Sarkhel,who represents the Indore gharana of vocal music,Pt Suresh Talwalkar,one of the greatest tabla exponents of present times,Biswajit Roy Chowdhary,who has trained under maihar gharana sitarist Indranil Bhattacharya as well as sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and Padma Talwalkar,well-known performers of Hindustani vocal music in the country and abroad.
In addition,Indian National Theatre will be organising a music appreciation course from November 3 to 6 at 5.30 pm each day at the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy,Sector 34. Sessions will be of about two hours and non-members will be required to pay a registration fee of Rs 250.
Performances will be held from October 26 to 28,6.15 pm onwards.
