The crisis in the Himacha BJP is set to deepen as the party leaders – allegedly the detractors of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal – who formed the Himachal Brashtachar Mukti Morcha, have decided to undertake tour of the districts.
While the senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar has washed his hands of the party affairs leaving it to the central leadership, the convenor of the anti-graft body,Maheshwar Singh,a four-time MP,has convened a meeting at Solan on November 9 to chart the future strategy.
However,Singh has termed the Morcha formed on November 2 as non-political and said the body has nothing to do with the internal affairs of BJP. He also denied it to be an outfit of Shanta loyalists. The senior party functionaries in Delhi have hinted that Shanta Kumars call to hold talks with the rebel leaders has been taken up and a meeting with the leaders including state party president Khimi Ram would be arranged soon.
However,Mohinder Sofat, the spokesman of the Morcha said he he had no knowledge about the partys initiatives. But,Singh will begin his tour of the districts from Solan on November 9, Sofat said. Meanwhile, troubles have already begun in the partys Sirmaur unit ahead of Renuka bypoll for which Hridaya Ram is the BJP candidate.
Two party leaders Roop Singh,a former MLA from Renuka, and Balbir Singh, who contested the 2007 elections as BJP candidate but lost to Prem Singh, have staked claim to the ticket. Dhumal has reportedly deputed Transport minister Mohinder Singh to hold talks with both leaders and dissuade them from contesting the polls.
