Mohali city records 61 pc voter turnout

The election received a mixed response from the voters with 63 per cent voters casting their votes in the district.

The election received a mixed response from the voters with 63 per cent voters casting their votes in the district. The district had four seats,two in Mohali and one each in Kharar and Dera Bassi. In Mohali city,61 per cent cast their votes,while 65 per cent votes were cast in Dera Bassi and Kharar.

The administration had set up 196 polling booths for the 1,25,521 voters in the district. Twenty-four polling booths were declared very sensitive and 78 sensitive. The administration had deployed 1,052 police personnel in order to maintain law and order during the elections. The election went on peacefully with no reports of violence from any area.

The early hours of the polling received a lukewarm response from the voters but voting picked up in the afternoon. Till 2 pm,only 45 per cent had cast their votes in Dera Bassi and Mohali constituencies whereas in Kharar,50 per cent voters had exercised their right. SAD candidate Charanjit Singh was ahead in Kharar.
