Mixed day for Deepinder

It was heartbreak for Chandigarh lad Deepinder Singh Bains as he could not achieve his dreams of a grand double by losing in the singles category with a 1-6,5-7 margin to Gurinder Singh in the HTA-AITA Tennis Tournament which concluded at Harvest Tennis Academy on Friday.

Chandigarh lad wins doubles title,but loses in singles category

It was heartbreak for Chandigarh lad Deepinder Singh Bains as he could not achieve his dreams of a grand double by losing in the singles category with a 1-6,5-7 margin to Gurinder Singh in the HTA-AITA Tennis Tournament which concluded at Harvest Tennis Academy on Friday.

Bains started the match on a sedate note and Gurinder made full use of it by winning the first set easily by 6-1. However,he showed glimpses of his best form as he matched Gurinder shot for shot but still ended up on the losing side. A spirited Gurinder saw off his challenge to win the title by winning the second set 7-5.

However,in the doubles’ category,Deepinder Singh Bains,who paired up with Manav Dhavan,emerged as winner as the duo ended the challenge of Shantanu Rajput and Kunal Anand with a 4-6,7-5,10-4 win.

It was a tough encounter for the winning duo as they lost the first set 4-6. Bains and Dhavan then regrouped their energies and claimed the second set narrowly by 7-5 before winning the final set 10-4.

In the women’s singles final encounter,Sharmada Balu of Karnataka ended the challenge of Natasha Palha of Goa 6-2,6-3. Balu started off brilliantly and took the first set 6-2. She carried on her fine form and played some good shots all over the court to overpower her opponent and won the set 6-3 to lay her hands on the title.
