Missing trucks: Employees of transport firm booked

Two separate cases have been registered in connection with the 80 “missing” trucks of paddy and wheat that were sent to Kashmir from Dasuya and Mukerian subdivisions of Hoshiarpur district last year.

Two separate cases have been registered in connection with the 80 “missing” trucks of paddy and wheat that were sent to Kashmir from Dasuya and Mukerian subdivisions of Hoshiarpur district last year. Sent by the Food Corporation of India (FCI),these 80 vehicles— 41 from Dasuya and 39 from Mukerian — never reached their destination.

Though the FCI had complained to the police about the missing trucks, the role of its employees is under scanner. The two cases have been registered against employees of Dashmesh Transport, the company hired for the purpose,at Dasuya and Mukerian police stations. It is suspected that the 80 trucks could have been sold on the way by transporters with the connivance of certain FCI officials. The inquiry was conducted by the Hoshiarpur police, which are yet to recover the missing trucks. A case has been registered against Avinash Singh,Paramjot Singh and Navneet Singh of Dashmesh Transport. Mukerian station house officer (SHO) Jatinder Singh said investigation was on to look into the role of FCI officials in the case. Dasuya SHO Balbir Singh said a case had been registered against the three on the complaint of FCI area manager.
