The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed the UT Administration to frame an industrial policy that will be commensurate with the Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act.

It has further directed that the Administration should review its organisational set-up.

Industrialists from the city had approached the MHA stating the Administration has not been taking note of their demands even as many issues remained unresolved. Following this, the Joint Secretary (UT) called a meeting in New Delhi on October 15 where officers of the Administration and representatives of the industry were present. In the meeting, the Joint Secretary said he felt that to govern an industrial area there must be some industrial policy. He has stated that there was some sort of uncertainty prevailing, while advising the UT Administration to take a firm decision.

The Administration has, over the past several years, not been able to formulate an industrial policy. Also, the MSMED Act has not been implemented in the city. One reason behind this is that industrialists, who have paid huge sums for changing the land use of industrial plots to commercial, are opposing this. One section of industrialists felt their money should be returned if the same activities are to be allowed free of cost with the implementation of MSMED Act. However, another section is demanding that the Act be implemented.

During the meeting,Joint Secretary (Estate),UT Administration, said soon an order would be notified by the Administration for allowing IT and IT-enabled services.
