A district court has acquitted Teerath Singh, a resident of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, in a case registered by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC). The youth, who had been out on bail for the past five years, was facing trial under the Arms Act on allegations of working for the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF).
Police had initially charged him in 2008 under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), naming UK-based Gursharan Singh as a co-accused. The police claimed that the accused were linked with KLF and were planning to carry out anti-national activities.
Subsequently, two others, Jagdev Singh and Jasvir Singh, were arrested but later released after investigation. Teerath Singh was arrested from Meerut, and the police claimed that arms were recovered from him in Amritsar.
However, during the trial, the court noted that the prosecution failed to produce “concrete evidence” to support the allegations. Later, the UAPA charges were dropped, and only an Arms Act challan was presented against Teerath Singh.
After hearing both sides, the court acquitted him, observing that the police had failed to prove its case beyond doubt.
