The woman in her statement told that the accused kept her in a locked apartment for over two years, gangraped her after giving her intoxicants and also chopped her hair A 36-year-old woman sweeper of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, who was allegedly held captive and gangraped for over two years, was rescued by a joint team of police and MC from an apartment, Wednesday.
Police said that among four accused booked for gangrape and other offences, one was MC nambardaar who used to put her fake attendance, withdraw her salary and use it on their own. The woman in her statement told that the accused kept her in a locked apartment for over two years, gangraped her after giving her intoxicants and also chopped her hair.
A team led by MC zonal commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon along with police, rescued the woman Wednesday and got her admitted at Civil Hospital.
According to police, the woman had got job in MC on compassionate grounds after her mother’s death in 2013. However, in past years, she rarely reported for duty. The accused held her captive and used to put her fake attendance to use her salary. The police arrested three accused including Manpreet Singh, his wife Ramandeep Kaur and their aide Sabar Ali. When the team went to rescue the woman, Kaur allegedly misbehaved with them.
Another accused Prince, who is a nambardaar, used to mark her fake attendance and withdraw her salary.
He is yet to be arrested. The victim further told police that the accused had chopped her hair and also availed a loan from the bank in her name. The accused used to assault her and rape her after giving her intoxicant pills.
The victim stated that in 2019 she had shifted to an apartment. The accused Manpreet Singh, who was friend of her brother, had promised her to take care of her. The accused with the help of his wife and other aides held her captive in her flat and started giving her intoxicating pills. Manpreet and Ali had raped her several times, she alleged.
Sekhon said that Prince used to help the accused in marking attendance of the victim and withdraw her salary. A departmental action will also be taken against him.
Sub-inspector Harmesh Singh, who is investigating the case, said that on Wednesday they received the information that a woman was held captive in the flat. The police conducted a raid and rescued her. “She is doing fine now and stable,” he said.
An FIR sections 376 D, 342, 328, 354, 323, 420 and 406 of IPC has been lodged against the accused at Sadar police station.
