The Chandigarh Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum-II has directed the MC contractor of a parking lot in Sector 8 to pay Rs 20,000 to a resident of Sector 10 as compensation for the harassment caused to him for the theft of his vehicle from the parking lot. Forum President Lakshman Sharma and Member Jaswinder Singh Sidhu have also directed the contractor to pay Rs 7,000 as litigation costs to complainant Shashi Kant Wadhawan. In his complaint before the Forum,Wadhawan stated that his Maruti Swift was stolen from a parking lot in Sector 8 in March 2010. He added that after the car was insured,he had got some additional accessories for the car,which were not covered by the insurance policy. Wadhawan gave his parking slip to the Forum,which was still in his possession. In its reply,MC stated that it has nothing to do with the matter,since there was no deficiency on its part. However,after considering the case,the Forum concluded that the MC parking contractor had undertaken in the parking slip to be responsible for the theft of the vehicle. The Forum said that the complainant would have been compensated by the insurance company for his loss. In this light,it said the contractor must compensate the complainant for the harassment caused to him.
