Out on surprise checks of parking lots and taxi stands in various sectors,Mayor Kamlesh along with other officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) found gross violations of the civic bodys prescribed rules.

The checks were conducted in Sectors 8,9,17,22 and 35 following reports of chaotic conditions prevailing in the parking lots and taxi stands.

Five parking contractors were issued challans. The team found vehicles parked haphazardly in the parking lots and the number of vehicles exceeding the available space. Two-wheelers were found parked in the space designated for four-wheelers.

Also,vehicles were parked in the zone meant for fire tenders. It has been observed that fire tenders face a tough time entering the parking lots in case of fire,courtesy the haphazard parking.

Besides,the parking violations,the parking attendants were not wearing proper uniforms.

The CCTV cameras required to be installed at the entry and exit points of the parking lots were either not in place or not functioning.

The MC had also received complaints on overcharging by parking contractors.

The teams did find money being charged for keeping helmets. Meanwhile,the taxi stand operators were warned to set up booths according to the approved design instead of the tents present at the stands. Encroachments were also found at a parking lot in Sector 22.

Two permanent booths have been set up in the lot where a kitchen has also been constructed.

Mayor Kamlesh was accompanied by councillors Chander Mukhi Sharma,Pardeep Chhabra and Joint Commissioner T P S Phulka during the various checks.
