After her recent trip to Kolkata to attend a conference of representatives of municipalities from across the country,Mayor Kamlesh has mooted the idea of conducting a detailed survey of the city to help in policy-making and tackling emergencies.

Covering all commercial and residential establishments in the city, the survey entails preparing a detailed itinerary of everything ranging from encroachments to water supply, availability of parking as well as traffic management.

Similar surveys are being carried out in Chennai and New Delhi.

“While piecemeal surveys are conducted time and again, this survey will cover every aspect of the city. A detailed project report will be prepared that will help in policy making and disaster management,” explained Kamlesh.

Another proposal pertains to the launch of several income-generating projects, such as entertainment and education parks for children, which will add to the MC exchequer for the years to come.

The Municipal Corporation will also look into creating awareness among residents for upkeep of the facilities being offered to them.

Mayor Kamlesh said: “The MC supplies water for 16 hours, yet people do not make an effort to conserve it. Similar is the case with green belts and parks. People want all the facilities, but do not want to make the effort of preserving these. We will start an awareness drive to make people aware of their responsibilities.”
