Despite Gurkirat Mann’s scintillating 154-ball knock of 136 runs,Mohali conceded 34-run first innings lead to Amritsar on the third day of the match during the Punjab Inter-District cricket tournament for Katoch Shield at the Gandhi Ground. Mohali were bowled out for 279 runs in 93.3 overs. Gurkirat Mann (136) along with Shine Sharma (32) put on 137 runs for the sixth wicket. Left-arm spinner Vinay Chaudhary (5 for 92) and medium-pacer Bharat Lumba (4 for 48) wrecked the Mohali batting line-up with their accurate bowling performances. In reply,Amritsar were 12 for no loss at close of the third day’s play. The play on the third day started late due to overnight rain.
The match between Chandigarh and Ludhiana was also truncated because of wet ground conditions. Just 33 overs could be bowled in the day wherein Chandigarh lost their overnight player Amit Prashar for 87,while the other overnight unbeaten batsman,Gurkirat Walia,went on to complete a superb unbeaten 108 runs. Bipul Sharma also chipped in with useful unbeaten knock of 52 off 111 balls. At the end of day’s play,Chandigarh were 337 for 5. Medium-pacer Baltej Singh (4 for 54) was the most successful bowler for Ludhiana.
In the third match being played at GMSSS,Sector 26,Patiala were bowled out for 336 runs in 98.4 overs. Himanshu Chawla played a superb innings of 95 runs while Jeevanjot scored 88 runs for Patiala. Both added 156 runs for the fourth-wicket partnership. Preetkamal was also impressive during his knock of 55 runs. Patiala took a vital first innings lead of 63 runs. Ishan Malhotra (4 for 47) and Navdeep Singh (3 for 54) were the successful bowlers for Jalandhar. Leg-spinner Rahul Sharma could bag mere one wicket. In reply,Jalandhar were 128 for 6 in 38 overs at the close of third day’s play. Pargat Singh (48) and Taruwar Kohli (52) were the notable contributors with the bat for Jalandhar. For Patiala,Rajwinder Golu (3 for 35) and Sarabjit Ladda (2 for 19) were pick of the bowlers.
