The accused was identified as Mohammad Harun.
After meat was recovered from an e-rickshaw operating under suspicious circumstances, the police reached the spot and called a forensic team, which collected samples of the meat and sent them for laboratory examination.
An FIR was registered on the complaint of Ankush Gupta, a VHP (Vishva Hindu Parishad) leader in Chandigarh, who stated they had received information regarding alleged supply of beef through e-rickshaws in the Sector 25 area.
Gupta alleged that when the e-rickshaw reached Sector 25, two bags were seen in it. After some time, the driver returned with only one bag. When VHP activists attempted to stop the e-rickshaw, the driver allegedly sped away. Activists on motorcycles chased the vehicle, but the driver allegedly rammed into them and continued fleeing. He was eventually stopped near a traffic light point in Sector 25.
On checking the remaining bag, meat was found, following which the police were informed.
The police said that a case has been registered under sections 196, 299 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sector 11 police station on the complaint of Ankush Gupta, a resident of Sector 29B, Chandigarh.
