A 42-year-old man, who had returned from Canada a few years ago, was hacked to death at Thakur Colony, near Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana, late on Monday night. The police identified the victim as one Baninderdeep Singh Grewal, whose wife and children they said were in Canada. According to the police, the incident took place when Baninderdeep and his household help, Balla Singh, were riding on a motorcyle and were on their way back to his residence in in Lalton Kalan village from his farm house in Thakur Colony. En route, the police said, two assailants on a bike first waylaid the duo. They then proceeded to attack Baninderdeep with sharp edged weapons, before fleeing from the spot. After the accused fled, Balla Singh raised the alarm and with the help of some locals rushed Baninderdeep to DMCH, where he was declared dead on arrival past midnight. Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO of Sadar police station, said that Baninderdeep had been booked in three FIRs related to property disputes. "Prima facie, it is suspected to be a case of old and personal enmity. We are scanning CCTV footage in the area to gtaher clues about the attackers," he said. An FIR for murder has been registered against unidentified assailants at Sadar police station.
