Love’s New Season

It’s a very emotional moment for me. I have worked for four years on my first film as a director.” These were the first words of Pankaj Kapur as he addressed the audience at the launch of Mausam’s theatrical promo. It indeed was. He was flanked by his wife,Supriya Pathak,holding on to his hand,and his son,Shahid Kapoor,who pairs up with Sonam Kapoor in this love story.

The mood lightened soon after as the theatrical promo was screened. This unfolded the journey of the two main characters,Harinder Singh and Aayat,from the bylanes of a village in their teens to across the world over a decade. Kapur explained that the title Mausam does not refer to the various seasons but to the range of emotions that are a part of love. The film will release on September 16.

Shahid came dressed in beige trousers and a shirt,looking quite different from his mustacheoed avatar in the film. The actor confessed that he was not sure he could pull off the moustache when his director-father earlier suggested it. “But then it was a part of my character which is of an air force pilot,” he said.

Sonam,dressed like a Greek maid,dismissed rumours of clashes with her co-star. “I don’t usually interact with my heroes; it’s a lesson learnt over the years,” she said,hinting at her fallout with Ranbir Kapoor. “But Shahid and I became friends. We got to know each other during rehearsals for a ballroom dance sequence,” she recollected.
