22 districts, 90 Assembly seats, 10 Lok Sabha constituencies: With LS seats spanning multiple dists, picture still far from clear in Haryana
The 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana cover 22 districts and 90 Vidhan Sabha seats. It includes several that form part of multiple Lok Sabha seats.

(PTI Photo)With nine days to go before Haryana votes in the sixth and the penultimate phase of the Lok Sabha polls to elect 10 members of parliament, the picture remains far from clear. In a four cornered contest — with BJP, Congress, INLD and JJP going solo — it remains to be seen whether the state will again return a one sided verdict or split the seats.
The 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana cover 22 districts and 90 Vidhan Sabha seats. It includes several that form part of multiple Lok Sabha seats. Each Lok Sabha constituency covers at least two and maximum of four districts.
Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat that came into existence in 2009 (before that it used to be Bhiwani constituency) covers three districts. It includes Loharu, Bhiwaniand, and Tosham of Bhiwani district; Badhra and Dadri of Charkhi Dadri district (the newest constructed district in 2016); Ateli, Mahendragarh, Narnaul and Nangal Chaudhary of Mahendragarh district.
Haryana Congress’ incumbent working president Shruti Choudhry was the first to win from this constituency in 2009. She had defeated then INLD leader Ajay Chautala. Shruti, however, finished third in 2014 and second in 2019 Lok Sabha polls as BJP’s Dharambir won for two consecutive times. Dharambir is again contesting from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh this time while Congress has fielded Rao Dan Singh, current MLA from Mahendragarh.

Jind — the oldest district in Haryana — forms part of three Lok Sabha constituencies. Uchana Kalan assembly segment of Jind that JJP’s Dushyant Chautala represents is part of Hisar Lok Sabha seat, while Narwana assembly segment falls under Sirsa Lok Sabha seat, and Julana, Safidon and Jind segments fall under Sonipat Lok Sabha seat.
Similarly, Rewari district also forms part of two Lok Sabha seats including Bawal and Rewari in Gurgaon; and Kosli in Rohtak. Bhiwani is another district that forms part of two Lok Sabha seats including Loharu, Bhiwani and Tosham in Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat, and Bawani Khera in Hisar Lok Sabha seat.
The two Lok Sabha seats of Gurgaon and Faridabad cover five districts. While Gurgaon covers Rewari, Gurgaon and Nuh districts; Faridabad covers Palwal and Faridabad districts. The Rohtak district, considered a strong hold of the Congress leader and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, also covers three districts of Rohtak, Jhajjar and parts of Rewari. Similarly, Sirsa Lok Sabha seat covers three district including parts of Jind, Fatehabad and Sirsa.
While Faridabad Lok Sabha seat from where BJP has again fielded Krishan Pal while Congress’ has brought in veteran Mahendra Pratap covers two districts including Hathin, Hodal and Palwal in Palwal district, while Prithla, Faridabad NIT, Badkhal, Ballabgarh, Faridabad and Tigaon fall in Faridabad district. The Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat from where BJP has renominated Rao Inderjit while Congress has brought in Bollywood actor and senior Congress leader Raj Babbar covers three districts including Bawal and Rewari in Rewari district; Pataudi, Badshahpur, Gurgaon and Sohna in Gurgaon district; and Nuh, Feroepur Jhirka and Punahana in Nuh district.
In two Lok Sabha seats of Faridabad and Gurgaon that covers 18 assembly segments, BJP represent 11, Congress five, and two are represented by Independents. Each of the 10 Lok Sabha seats comprise nine Assembly segments. While BJP represents five each in Ambala, Karnal, Hisar and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, it represents seven in Faridabad and four each in Gurgaon and Kurukshetra. On the other hand, Congress represents seven segments in Rohtak and five in Sonipat, and four each in Gurgaon and Ambala. JJP’s four MLAs come from Hisar Lok Sabha seat while INLD’s lone MLA is from Sirsa Lok Sabha seat.
Hisar Lok Sabha seat that is facing multi corner contest including three members of Chautala clan – BJP’s Ranjit Singh, INLD’s Sunaina Chautala and JJP’s Naina Chautala and Congress’ Jai Prakash — covers three districts including Uchana Kalan in Jind district, Adampur, Uklana, Narnaund, Hansi, Barwala, Hisar and Nalwa in Hisar district and Bawani Khera in Bhiwani district, while Sirsa Lok Sabha seat covers three districts including Narwana in Jind district, Tohana, Fatehabad and Ratia in Fatehabad district, Kalanwali, Dabwali, Rania, Sirsa and Ellenabad in Sirsa district.
Rohtak Lok Sabha seat that witnessed the tightest contest in 2019 is again witnessing a contest between same two candidates – BJP’s Arvind Sharma and Congress’ Deepender Hooda — covers three districts including Meham, Garhi Sampla Kiloi, Rohtak and Kalanaur in Rohtak district, Bahadurgarh, Badli, Jhajjar and Beri in Jhajjar district and Kosli in Rewari district; while Sonipat Lok Sabha seat covers two districts including Ganaur, Rai, Kharkhauda, Sonipat, Gohana and Baroda in Sonipat district and Julana, Safidon and Jind in Jind district.
Karnal Lok Sabha seat from where Manohar Lal Khattar is contesting against Congress’ candidate Divyanshu Buddhiraja covers two districts including Nilokheri, Indri, Karnal, Gharaunda and Assandh in Karnal district and Panipat rural and Panipat city, Israna and Samalkha in Panipat district.
Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat that is witnessing a triangular contest, with BJP’s Naveen Jindal, AAP’s Sushil Gupta and INLD’s Abhay Chautala in fray, covers three districts including Radaur in Yamunanagar district, Ladwa, Shahbad, Thanesar and Pehowa in Kurukshetra district and Guhla, Kalayat, Kaithal and Pundri in Kaithal district.
Ambala Lok Sabha seat is witnessing the primary contest between BJP’s Banto Kataria and Congress’ Varun Chaudhary. It covers three districts including Kalka and Panchkula in Panchkula district, Naraingarh, Ambala cantonment, Ambala city and Mulana in Ambala district, and Sadhaura, Jagadhari and Yamunanagar in Yamunanagar.
While chief minister Nayab Saini is confident that “BJP is surely going to win all 10 Lok Sabha seats for the second consecutive time,” Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda says, “There is a complete wave of change in the Congress’ favour. The time has come when people of Haryana have made up their mind to oust the BJP government. There is a direct contest between BJP and Congress, this time”.
