The State Election Commission on Thursday announced election schedule for 53 nagarpalikas,24 district panchayats and 208 taluka panchayats,which will go to polls on October 21.
With this,the model code of conduct comes into effect immediately,said SEC secretary P S Shah.
Elections in six municipal corporations of the state have already been announced and are to be held on October 10. The elections will be notified on September 27 and the last date for filing of nomination forms will be October 4. The counting of votes will be done October 23.
The 53 nagarpalikas have 630 wards while 24 district panchayats have 804 seats. There are 4,071 wards in taluka panchayats. As many as 2,04,27,552 voters will cast their votes at 3,832 booths in district and taluka panchayats while 31,19,861 voters will use their franchise at 25,749 booths in nagarpalikas,the SEC announcement said. The polls will be conducted by specially assigned staff of 1,76,250 personnel,it said.
