Listless Summer Spread

In this rising heat,it can be tiresome to even think of dolling up for a do.

In this rising heat,it can be tiresome to even think of dolling up for a do. So it was a bit surprising to see that for their annual Spring-Summer showcase, fashion design students of Singapore-based Raffles Millennium International (RMI),which has its India campus in Chandigarh’s Sector 25,chose to highlight dressy evening wear in fabrics such as satin, silk and organza. City-based models presented a collection of 12 ensembles, all of which were formally styled and even included some dark-coloured trenchcoats. “The students chose the ‘ Magic Forest as their inspiration and wanted to highlight formal wear,” defended Omar Benitez, the head of fashion design faculty. However, standing out with her choice of colours and getting it right was student Harleen Kaur, who went light and flirty with sunny yellows and turquoise. The clever use of draping and subtle highlighting brought a whiff of fresh air to an otherwise heavy collection. This is the third showcase for RMI students. Their previous collections themed around Le Baroque and St Valentine’s were well put together and scored high on the design elements.

The fashion showcase will be open for public view from April 28 to May 5 at the RMI campus.
