‘Caught having liquor’ at community centre, Chandigarh municipal chief terminates services of 4 outsourced employees

(Representational image)Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar has terminated the services of four outsourced employees after they were allegedly caught consuming liquor inside the community centre in Dhanas.
The Commissioner was on a surprise evening inspection across various community centres in the city when Shakti and Gurjeet from the Horticulture Wing at Sector 16 Shanti Kunj, and Robin and Ajay Kumar from the Road Sub Division Number 4 of the Building & Roads (B&R) Wing were found “consuming liquor” inside an office on the community centre premises.
Taking action against the misconduct, the Commissioner immediately ordered the termination of all four employees.
The Corporation sources said a show cause notice was issued to the junior engineer of the B&R Wing, who is responsible for maintaining the Dhanas community centre, directing him to report to the Commissioner’s office with a written explanation by noon on July 10.
The non-compliance might invite disciplinary proceedings under relevant service rules, a Corporation official said, requesting anonymity.
Further, the Commissioner issued instructions to all executive and junior engineers to maintain regular supervision, ensure proper maintenance
of community centres, and prevent any misuse of the Corporation property.
Reiterating a “zero-tolerance” approach, the Commissioner said, “Any form of indiscipline, negligence, or misuse of public property will not be tolerated. Strict administrative action will be taken against all violators.”
