Library staff take away ID cards of 63 students
The representatives of Students Organisation of India and a library staff member at Post Graduate Government College,Sector 11 were caught taking away the ID cards of about 63 students, which are required at the time of voting on Thursday.
The representatives of Students Organisation of India (SOI) and a library staff member at Post Graduate Government College (PGGC),Sector 11 were caught taking away the ID cards of about 63 students, which are required at the time of voting on Thursday.
While the SOI candidates defended their member Deepak Kumars move by stating that he was trying to help out the students who could not receive their ID cards,Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) members alleged that the SOI representatives intended to trouble the students as seven of the 63 IDs belonged to PUSU members whose voting eligibility would have been cancelled in the absence of ID cards. PUSU members demanded the cancellation of the nomination of the Presidential candidate Rakesh Kumar representing the alliance of SOI with Student Organisation Panjab University (SOPU).
However, the college authorities said that the issue does not relate to the election process, stating that it is an internal matter of the college.
Principal J S Raghu said,I have ordered an inquiry into the matter. The issue has nothing to do with the election set-up. We are yet to find out the reason behind the move. For now,we have taken note of both the people involved.
