Faridkot Judicial Magistrate First Class S. Sohi delivered the verdict on Wednesday, noting that the complainant, a textile businessman from Kotkapura, failed to substantiate his allegations.
The businessman had alleged that he received a WhatsApp call from an individual claiming to be gangster Goldy Brar, who demanded ₹50 lakh on behalf of Bishnoi and issued threats if the money was not paid. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against Bishnoi and Brar on July 19, 2021.
In 2022, Bishnoi was brought to Faridkot under heavy police security for this case, with subsequent hearings conducted via video conferencing. However, due to a lack of evidence, he was acquitted on January 28, said his counsel, Amit Mittal.
Background on Lawrence Bishnoi
Born on February 12, 1993, in Duttranwali village of Fazilka district, Bishnoi is a law graduate who became deeply involved in student politics at Panjab University. Over the years, he has been implicated in multiple criminal activities, including extortion, drug trafficking, and high-profile murders. He has also been linked to threats against Bollywood actor Salman Khan and the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala.
Currently, Bishnoi is lodged in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Central Jail, where he was transferred from Delhi’s Tihar Jail under charges related to the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Despite being behind bars, reports suggest he continues to operate his criminal syndicate.
