To be introduced on Jan Marg first
Finally, the Chandigarh Administration is all set to implement lane driving in the city.
Giving an undertaking to this effect, senior standing counsel for UT administration advocate Sanjay Kaushal on Friday told Justice Rajive Bhalla of the Punjab and Haryana High Court that lane driving would be brought into force from August 6 onwards. The lane driving will first be introduced on Jan Marg.
The drive against those who jump the lane will be launched from Monday onwards. The undertaking was given during the resumed hearing of a contempt petition against Punjab,Haryana and Chandigarh on account of non- implementation of court directions pertaining to traffic guidelines in 1998.
Taking up the matter on Friday,Justice Bhalla also asked Haryana to demarcate lanes and come out with a traffic management plan for Gurgaon initially.
Punjab has also been directed to file an affidavit on the availability of alco meter with the Punjab Police. The directions came after the bench was informed regarding the paucity of meters in the state. The High court had zeroed in on Gurgaon in Haryana and Amritsar in Punjab as benchmark. The directions issued for the two cities will be made applicable to other cities of the two states after testing their efficacy.
