Land mafia in Ludhiana flourishing under AAP govt: Cong MP Ravneet Singh Bittu

Congress’ Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu on Wednesday wrote to Ludhiana deputy commissioner Surabhi Malik alleging that land mafia was flourishing under the AAP government in Punjab and an immediate intervention is needed.

“The AAP government has made tall claims of getting acres of encroached public land freed from the mafia. But I have no idea from these claims are being made because people have given us an entirely different feedback. Either it is the MC land, panchayat or that of LIT or GLADA or any other public land, colonisers first take permission for establishing colonies on them. And then they encroach on common passages, roads and the drains and rain outlets. If there are heavy rains, there is no way left for the water to pass as drains have also been encroached,” said Bittu, adding that he has written to Malik demanding an inquiry into the matter.

He added that this hooliganism has to be stopped. “If action is not taken on this letter, I will soon be meeting officials and take this up at higher level,” Bittu said.

Meanwhile, state AAP spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang said that in the past one year, nearly 11,000 acres of encroached land has been freed and it was an ongoing process. “If there’s any particular case, then Bittu should bring it to the notice of the CM instead of giving such political statements and writing letters. AAP government has got encroached land freed from several influential people already,” Kang said.
