Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday evening announced civic body status to Lalru and its surrounding 12 villages in the periphery of Chandigarh. Out of Dera Bassi Municipal Council limits till now,Lalru and its vicinity,which is a gateway to Punjab from Delhi,is bereft of basic civic amenities.
Accepting the long-pending demand of the locals,Badal announced to accord Notified Area Committee (NAC) status to Lalru cluster for ensuring all-round development and welfare of residents.
Addressing the Sangat Darshan Programme,the CM also said that 25,000 new teachers will be recruited soon to fill up the vacant posts in government schools and strengthen the educational infrastructure,especially in rural areas of the state. Badal also announced that work will begin soon on the abandoned Dashmesh Canal,which was the dream project of late Punjab minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh,to provide canal water for irrigation purposes in Mohali,Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib districts.
Badal also stated that agro centres at the village level would be opened to give direct marketing benefit to small farmers.
It was also said that a polytechnic college will be constructed in the memory of Capt Kanwaljit Singh in Dhakauli village. He also distributed Rs 4.5 crore grant cheques to 121 village panchayats for carrying out development works
Journalists to get toll exemption
Parkash Singh Badal asked Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand to ensure exemption of toll tax to accredited journalists at the toll plaza on Chandigarh-Delhi National Highway-21 in Dappar village near Dera Bassi.
