Lake club pool party fiasco: GM issued chargesheet

On August 19,a party that was organised at the Lake Club turned ugly when the Chandigarh Police reached the venue and drove out revellers after they were found entering the swimming pool having consumed alcohol. It was revealed that the organisers only had permission to use the lawns and not the swimming pool. It was alleged that the general manager allowed the party revellers to venture into the prohibited area. Following this,he was suspended the following day.

Though only 60 people were permitted,more than 200 people attended the party. At around 7 pm,when the revellers tried to enter the swimming pool,the police was called and the organisers were asked to end the party.

Rajeev Tuli,the general manager,has been transferred to the Sports Complex,Sector 42.

Officials of the UT Administration said Tuli had been asked to furnish a reply in the matter,and if his reply was not found satisfactory,an inquiry officer might be appointed in this case to further probe the matter.

UT Finance Secretary V K Singh,who is also the sports secretary,said,“Chargesheet was served,recently. We will wait for his reply in the matter,and if need be we will appoint an inquiry officer”.

It was also revealed that Tuli permitted Sanjay Singla,the caterer and member of the Club to hold a commercial party in the name of ‘social get-together’. But Tuli did not specify where the party would be organised.

The inquiry report submitted by ADC Mahavir Kaushik mentioned that “if Tuli had issued a notice for maintenance of the swimming pool on August 19,then why was the water not drained out of the pool? As the swimming pool had water,the organisers managed to hold the island pool party”.
