Haryana minister Anil Vij on Wednesday furthered the BJP’s allegations of opulence targeting Delhi chief minister’s official residence, and said the “Sheesh Mahal” renovated by Arvind Kejriwal during his tenure as CM would hring doom for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The BJP has accused the Aam Aadmi Party of converting Bungalow number 6 on Flagstaff Road in north Delhi’s Civil Lines, the CM’s official residence, into a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ by adding “extravagant luxuries” such as mini-bars, golden toilets and swimming pools.

As the official residence of the Delhi CM has been a poll issue by the BJP, the leaders of the ruling party on Wednesday staged a sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s official residence after they were stopped from opening the CM’s bungalow to the public so as to expose the BJP’s false propaganda.

“The Sheesh Mahal, built by the Aam Aadmi Party to showcase their luxurious lifestyle, will itself become the party’s graveyard in Delhi. The Prime Minister has not built any new residence. All Prime Ministers have resided in the same house. It is the Delhi government of the AAP that constructed something new, which they flaunt,” Vij told reporters in poll-bound Delhi.

Anil Vij, Haryana’s energy, transport and labour minister, is in his third term as Haryana’s cabinet minister. But, unlike his cabinet colleagues, Vij had never stayed in ministerial official accommodation allotted in Chandigarh or Panchkula. Instead, he has always stayed at his personal residence, which is 45 km away from capital city Chandigarh, in Ambala cantonment – the constituency that he represents.

Regarding the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled on February 5, Vij said the Bharatiya Janata Party will win in Delhi like in Haryana. “We have already hoisted the BJP’s victory flag in Haryana, signalling our momentum, and this will extend to all regions. In Haryana, we marked the BJP’s victory, paving the way for triumph nationwide. After Haryana, Maharashtra elections were held, and the BJP secured victory there. Now, Delhi elections are next, and the BJP will win here as well because Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji has reshaped the direction of politics,” he said.

Vij said that for years, political parties won elections by exploiting emotions, making false promises, and campaigning under slogans like ‘Eradicate Poverty.’ “However, PM Modi Ji has introduced the politics of work and results, which the people appreciate. Hence, the BJP will win the Delhi Assembly elections”, Vij explained.

On farmers’ protest at Shambhu and Khanauri borders, Vij claimed that farmers are protesting on land governed by the AAP in Punjab. “Despite the loud claims made in Delhi, no AAP leader or Chief Minister has visited the farmers to understand their issues. Even the Honourable Supreme Court has formed a committee to hold talks with farmers and issued directives, but the AAP government is unwilling to implement it. I believe the AAP is waiting for an incident, like the hunger strike of farmer leader Dallewal Ji, to exploit it for political gain across the country,” the Haryana minister said.
