Kamalpreet Singh of Kapurthala commissioned as Flying Officer in Royal Australian Air Force
Kamalpreet Singh from Kapurthala has followed the footsteps of his father and great-grandfather, who served in the Indian Army.

Kamalpreet Singh, a native of Kapurthala in Punjab, has been commissioned as a Flying Officer (Aeronautical engineer) in the Royal Australian Air Force.
A former student of Central and Army Schools in Kapurthala, and an engineering graduate from DAVIET, Jalandhar, Kamalpreet worked at the Goindwal Power Plant in Punjab before migrating to Australia on a work permit in 2017.
After working in a company as an engineer for over seven years, he attained permanent residency and Australian citizenship around two years ago. He completed the rigorous Initial Officer Course at the Officer Training School in Sale, Victoria, and qualified for an officer’s role in the Australian military last week.

While speaking to The Indian Express Tuesday, Kamalpreet Singh said, “This commission continues the proud tradition of military service in our family. I am honoured to serve and contribute to the safety and security of my adopted country.”
“I now begin my military career with the Royal Australian Air Force, representing not only my city and family, but also the broader Indian community in Australia,” said Kamalpreet.
Kamalpreet has followed the footsteps of his father and great-grandfather, who served in the Indian Army. His elder brother, Sarabjit Singh, has been serving in the New South Wales Police Force for the past 10 years.

Kamalpreet’s father, Sewa Singh, a resident of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Nagar in Kapurthala, expressed pride in his son’s accomplishments. He said Kamalpreet had shown a strong interest in military service since childhood. He migrated to Australia, but he never gave up, and has now fulfilled a long-held dream by joining the Australian air force.
“The family has received an outpouring of congratulations from friends, relatives, and community members,” he said while speaking to The Indian Express.
Kamalpreet’s appointment has been widely celebrated in Kapurthala, with residents expressing pride in his achievement.
His success highlights the increasing role and recognition of people of Indian origin in global defence services, particularly in areas that demand high standards of physical and mental excellence.
