After being delayed for over a month with a mysterious anonymous letter surfacing, final arguments in the case pertaining to the death of medical student Aman Kachru due to alleged ragging at DRP Medical College,Tanda, will resume on October 28.
The letter, which had raised questions on the police inquiry conducted into the case, was finally dropped from the proceedings of the case by Additional Sessions Judge,Dharamsala,Purinder Vaidya on Tuesday.
After the defence submitted its reply regarding the anonymous letter to the court, the judge observed that the proceedings regarding this letter should be dropped and final arguments be resumed.
The prosecution had already submitted its reply on October 8.
The judge had received the anonymous letter by post after final arguments in the case started on September 22. The letter claimed that the four arrested students of the Tanda college Abhinav Verma,Ajay Verma,Mukul Sharma and Naveen Verma were not the cause of Amans death. The letter also had Amans mobile phone call details before his death.
Following this, the court had asked both sides to submit replies on the fresh development. While the prosecution argued that there was no truth in the letter, the defence submitted before the court on Tuesday that it was for the prosecution to take cognisance of the letter and inquire into it.
Special Public Prosecutor Jeevan Lal Sharma said: We submitted before the court that the letter had just been popped up in the case to create hurdle in the final arguments that should now be held soon. The final arguments will start on October 28.
