A day after the protest staged by Rajput Kshatriya Akhil Bharatiya Sabha, wherein 10 protestors and five police officials were reportedly injured, the Chandigarh Police surprisingly booked five persons on charges of attempt to murder. However,no arrests have been made by the police yet.
According to the police, the protestors had pelted stones on the personnel and also lathi-charged the force outside Maharana Pratap Hostel,Sector 25,on Wednesday. In retaliation, the police had claimed to have used tear gas and water cannon to control the situation. When asked the reason for booking the accused under Section 307,Central DSP Ashish Kapoor said,The protestors hit our officials with stones and sticks. A few police personnel sustained serious injuries.
He added,The case of attempt to murder applies to all the protestors involved in hitting the police personnel. However, since we have identified only five of them,a case has been registered against them.
Apart from Section 307,the five accused – Mohinder Singh Tanwar,Ved Pal Tanwar,Rishi Raj,Yogender Tanwar and Sukhdev Singh Rana – have also been booked under several other sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act at the Section 11 Police Station. We are planning to arrest the accused soon, Kapoor said.
The protestors had raised their concern over the telecast of TV serial Jodha Akbar,as they alleged that the serial showcased false information about Jodha marrying Akbar to save her fathers kingdom.
