Over 2,000 applications received for 289 posts of lecturers in govt colleges on contract basis
To avoid any discrepancy during the interviews for the selection of lecturers in government colleges on contractual basis, the UT Department of Higher Education has issued instructions to all the principals of the city colleges that in case any candidate is given marks below the
prescribed limit,a written explanation will be sought from the
interviewer.
Any examiner awarding seven or marks less and 17 or marks more to any candidate would be asked to give a written explanation. This is being done to avoid discrepancies in the marks for interview, which are often contested by the candidates. Also, the weightage for interview marks has been decreased from 33 to 20 per cent, said a senior official of the Education department.
As per the selection criteria adopted by the UT Administration for the appointment of lecturers this year,a maximum of 20 marks have been fixed for the interview. This includes equal distribution of marks between verbal presentation, including content and communication skills and aptitude.
As per the officials, interview marks would constitute a part of the total 100 marks. Earlier,10 marks for interview out of total of 30 marks (33 per cent) was fixed as the selection criteria.
This year,in response to the demand for more faculty to balance the increased number of courses and students in the colleges,as many as 289 lecturer posts on contractual basis have been released in five government colleges.
Inundated with the number of applications for these posts, the department has re-scheduled the interview date from July 10 to July 13,14 and 15.
Due to unprecedented number of applications which has crossed the 2,000 mark, the department has postponed the interview dates. The candidates would be informed accordingly, said Director Higher Education Ajoy Sharma.
