Army Havildar & others planned daring strike in Mohali
With the arrest of five active members,the Mohali district police on Friday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of armed robbers. Four .32 bore pistols,6 live and 2 empty cartridges,iron rods and other deadly weapons were recovered from their possession.
The gangsters,including an Army Havildar,were planning a daring strike somewhere in Mohali area when a police party swopped on them and caught them in an isolated area near Bhagomajra village in Mohali,SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar disclosed here this afternoon. However,one of their accomplices Sukhwinder Singh managed to give police the slip and fled the spot under cover of darkness.
Addressing a media conference,Bhullar said Havildar Avdesh Kumar Dubey,who was working as clerk at Military Headquarters NR Area transit camp at Behlana,Sukhwinder Singh of Balongi,Jagjit Singh alias Jeeti of Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur,Gurnam Singh of Lasara village in Jalandhar,and Kulvir Singh alias Nana of Bhagomajra village were about to leave for committing a dacoity when a police party swooped on them and caught them in tracks.
While the Armyman was aged around 35,rest four gangsters were in their early and mid-20s. Preliminary police investigations revealed that Dubey and Gurnam had earlier fell in the trap of Nawanshahr police and a cache of illegal weapons was recovered from them while Jagjit was earlier booked in a case of causing hurt,revealed SSP,while divulging that the history sheeters were presently out on bail and joined their hands to return back to their criminal life.
Bhullar hoped to crack a number of robbery and dacoity cases in the area with the arrest of the gangsters,who were put under sustained interrogation to help nab their runaway accomplice and recover robbed material from them.
