The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) will carry out a three-day ‘kalash yatra’ in Haryana from December 27 to pay tribute to former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, who died on Friday. The yatra will commence at Fatehabad and conclude in Kurukshetra on December 29.
INLD state president and former MLA Rampal Majra said the ‘kalash yatra’ will be carried out in all 22 districts of the state keeping in view the sentiments of the people who could not arrive for Chautala’s cremation. “Such people will be able to pay tribute to the late leader during the ‘kalash yatra’,” Majra said on Tuesday.
“Like Haryana, Chautala was also associated with the farmers of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, so the farmers from these states have urged to submerge his ashes in their religious places. Accordingly, the ashes will be submerged in Pushkar (Rajasthan), Anandpur Sahib (Punjab), and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) after a condolence meeting in Chautala village of Sirsa district on December 31,” the INLD leader said.
Om Prakash Chautala’s grandsons Arjun Chautala and Karan Chautala and his nephew Aditya Devilal will accompany the yatra. Arjun is the MLA from Rania, while Aditya represents the Dabwali seat in the state Assembly.
Senior politicians across party lines visited the Chautala family’s Teja Khera farmhouse to pay tributes to the late INLD leader who was 89. On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived at the farmhouse.
Chautala was cremated with full state honours at the farmhouse on Saturday. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress MPs Randeep Surjewala, Kumari Selja, and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal were among those who participated in the funeral.
