Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his regime may term the Railway Budget discriminatory, but Ludhiana MP Manish Tewari has welcomed the commitment to commence work on the Eastern Rail Freight Corridor, that will run from Kolkata to Ludhiana. Local industrialists too are happy over the work on the corridor finally beginning, even as many demands for its extension to Amritsar have fallen on deaf ears.

J R Singhal,Managing Director,Eastman Group, said,“The construction of the corridor will help industrialists in a big way, given the fact that ours is a landlocked state.”

“As far as extensions are concerned,Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu is leading the charge, and hopefully will get it approved. But it is a good thing that the work has begun,” added Singhal. Tewari said,“Extensions can be handled later as well. Getting the minister to commit to the project is a big development for the state.”
