A 23-year-old Indian man was allegedly assaulted in Australia’s Adelaide last week, following what he described as a dispute over parking and alleged racist remarks. While one person has been arrested in the case, the police are seeking information about others allegedly involved in the incident, Australian media reported.

The incident took place on Kintore Avenue on Saturday night.

Charanpreet Singh said a group approached his vehicle, used racial language, and then physically attacked him, rendering him unconscious. Singh told Australia’s 9NEWS that they screamed an obscenity at him and “after that they just started punching”. He reportedly sustained injuries, including brain trauma and facial fractures, and required overnight hospital treatment.

A 20-year-old man from Enfield was arrested on Sunday and charged with assault causing harm. The police are looking into the involvement of other individuals who left the scene before officers arrived, 9NEWS reported.

“Things like this, when they happen, it makes you feel like you should go back. You can change anything in your body, but you can’t change the colours,” 9NEWS quoted Singh as saying.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas was quoted as stating: “Any time we see any evidence of any racial attack, it is completely unwelcome in our state and just not consistent with where the majority of our community are at.”

The police probe is ongoing.
