Inauguration of air-conditioned community centre: Invitation cards minus mayor’s name, Sood likely to skip event
Sources in the Congress said Sood knew that he was not going to be invited to the event, so the BJP rejected Rawat’s agenda of Sector 39 dispensary in the recent House meeting.

THE ABSENCE of Mayor Arun Sood’s name on the invitation card for the inauguration of the air-conditioned community centre in Sector 40 has sparked a controversy. The inauguration is slated for Saturday.
Local Congress councillor Gurbax Rawat preferred to get the inauguration done by Municipal Commissioner Baldeo Purushartha. Sood, who is from the BJP, is not likely to attend the inauguration.
Sources said that Rawat had approached the Municipal Commissioner and invited him to inaugurate the building while the mayor was not even informed about it.

However, on inviting the mayor to the function personally, Rawat said that invites had been distributed to all, including the mayor, by the MC staff concerned.
This is the first inauguration of the year after Mayor Arun Sood took over. The inauguration will be held at 4 pm.
Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, Rawat said, “I feel everybody has a contribution towards the development of my ward. I have been calling officers from all the departments as chief guests, be it the adviser or finance secretary or Housing Board chairman because I feel everybody is doing something for the people of my ward.”

On this, Rawat said, “I can just tell my opinion. What can I comment on rumours?” Sood, when contacted, said, “I don’t want to comment on the issue.”
Renovation of one of the oldest community centres of Sector 40 has been done to make it fully air-conditioned.
Two fully furnished rooms for bride and groom, separate washrooms for men, women and physically challenged, a kitchen, pantry, open terrace, meeting lounge, office, library room and gym are some of the new features of the community centre.
