HP to host National Indoor Games; Rs 50 cr to be spent on infrastructure
SHIMLA:The next National Indoor Games will be organised in Himachal Pradesh. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Indian Olympic Association held in New Delhi on Saturday under the chairmanship of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi. Lok Sabha member from Himachal Anurag Thakur represented the HP Olympic Association. In a statement released on Sunday,Thakur,who is also the general secretary of the association,said the schedule and the itinerary of the games would be decided in the next meeting of the IOA. Thakur said the infrastructure for the Indoor National Games would be created by spending Rs 50 crore.
Govt invites rainwater harvesting models from citizens for implementation
SHIMLA:Inviting innovative ideas from citizens to popularise rainwater harvesting in the state,the Himachal Pradesh government has announced that these would be adopted as models for implementation. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said this while interacting with teachers at Dada Sibi in Kangra district. He appreciated the model invented by physics lecturer Surjeet Thakur and chemistry lecturer Harish Chaudhary of Government Senior Secondary School,Dada Siba. The model of harvesting rainwater and using it for consumption and non-consumption activities was displayed by the two before the CM at Dharamshala on Sunday. The government has formulated various programmes aimed to motivate the people to create rainwater harvesting infrastructure in their house construction plans so that the potable water was utilised only for drinking purposes.
SHIMLA:Director,Public Relations,Himachal,B D Sharma has been conferred the best chairman award by the Public Relations Society of India. Sharma is the founder chairman of PRSI,Shimla chapter. The national award was conferred by Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah during the national conference of PRSI at Chandigarh on Sunday. The Shimla chapter was awarded the national award for best chapter in 2007-08.
Illegally felled timber recovered,2 booked
SHIMLA: In a joint raid of the State Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau and the forest department,a large consignment of illegally cut timber was recovered from an under-construction tourist resort at Kotgarh in Shimla district. The team confiscated 100 sleepers (unprocessed timber) of Kayal tree. The vigilance has booked the owner of Wilderness Resort and a few local forest officials under the Indian Forest Act. Sources said the owner had not been arrested till the filing of this report.
Low-floor buses in Haryana
As many as 150 semi low-floor buses will be introduced under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission in Haryana. These buses will run between Ballabgarh,Faridabad,Delhi,Palwal and Gurgaon and stop at almost all bus stops in the urban areas of Faridabad district. Haryana Transport Commissioner Anand Mohan Sharan said this at a meeting on Saturday.
