St Soldier celebrates annual day
MOHALI:To reiterate the need and significance of cultivating empathy the basis of morality,St Soldier International Convent School celebrated its annual day with Compassion as its theme at its campus here today.
The gala event commenced with a welcome song melodiously presented by the choir of the school.
The various milestones and the goals accomplished by the school throughout the year were unfolded through its annual appraisal by principal V Tiwana.
The students of Class III exhibited their love for fascinating fauna by dancing to the tune of Hakuna Matata. To make human existence meaningful,the students of Class IV presented a short play,Wake Up Paul,which emphasized the need of being humane and benevolent rather than being callous and insensitive. The students of Class V endeavored to bring solace and embalm this bleeding earth through Michael Jacksons famous number Heal the world. Ladli based on the social evil of female foeticide touched the emotional chords of all present and gave some food for thought to everyone. This heartrending performance of Class VIII students sensitized the audience with great finesse.
The function ended with the rendition of The Earth Song by the school choir accompanied by the participants of various events along with the children dressed as the Apostles of Peace and Compassion,which spellbound the audience.
Shivalik Public students excel
CHANDIGARH:Shivalik Public School,Sector 41,bagged the first prize in the junior level at the 16th National Childrens Science Congress held in the Commonwealth Asia Youth Centre on Saturday. The event was organised in collaboration with the Environment Society of India. Team members Shreyash Sharma (Group Leader),Mayank Harlalka,Amandeep Singh,Simranjit Singh and Rishabh Malhotra worked on the project Save Paper,Save Trees,Save Environment. The team will compete at the national level at Ahmedabad from December 27 to 31.
Mega job fair begins
MOHALI:A two-day mega job fair began at Sri Sukhmani Institute of Engineering and Technology (SSIET) in Dera Bassi on Saturday. Students from the affiliated colleges of Punjab Technical University could also participate in the placement fair which was open for students of engineering,arts,MBA,MCA,BCA,BSc (IT) and all graduate programmes. College placement officer Loveleen said companies like Wipro,Trident,Google,Hero,Collabra,Bharti Airtel,Maruti,Zephyr and EA Sports were participating in the fair. Eligible candidates could register their names on the campus.
India,China capable to emerge superpowers: Sekhwan
MOHALI:India and China were capable to emerge as superpowers of the world,said Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan in Mohali on Thursday night. He said both the developing countries have enough manpower and nuclear power as well but the only thing required for both the countries was to join hands and strengthen mutual friendship to beat their detractors. The minister was addressing a Chinese delegation after honouring them on behalf of the state government.
A four-member Chinese delegation of the NGO Asia Africa Department of Chinese Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC),headed by Associations Director General Lin Yi,which is on a visit to Punjab,was in Mohali last night.
In her address,Lin Yi said she was impressed by the warmth and courtesy shown by the residents of Punjab,which she was visiting for the first time. Equally impressed was she from Punjabs rich culture,food and dressing styles.
Non-teaching staff of colleges hold dharna
PATIALA: On a call given by the Punjab and Chandigarh Non-Teaching Employees Union,a days strike and dharna was observed in Modi College on Saturday. Vinod Sharma,the press secretary of Modi College Non-Teaching Employees Union,said the strike has called to protest the indifferent behavior of the Punjab government towards the demands of non-teaching employees of private colleges. Union president Ravinder Kaur demanded implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations. The protestors also alleged that staff of all government colleges had already started getting revised salaries.
Ajay Gupta,Secretary of the Punjabi University Wing of the union threatened that the non-teaching employees of all private colleges of Punjab would boycott the House Examinations going to be held in December. ens
