Three persons were injured,one of them seriously,when a private bus overturned at the roundabout between Sector 38 and 25 early on Friday morning. The incident took place around 5 am when the driver of the bus reportedly failed to control the speeding bus at the roundabout turning. The bus of New Fatehgarh Sahib Transport,carrying 20 workers hired by a caterer,was on its way to Ludhiana from Zirakpur. The police said the driver of the bus identified as Raj Kumar had lost his way and came to Sector 38 where the bus turned turtle. The injured were rushed to the Sector-16 hospital where two workers are undergoing treatment while others were discharged after being administered first aid. Janak Rana,station house officer of the Sector 39 police station,said the driver was booked under relevant sections.

Two stabbed in Kurali
MOHALI: Two persons sustained serious injuries after being stabbed in separate incidents in Kurali,the police said on Friday. Ravinder Singh of Sohali village and Dalbeer Singh of Kurali are struggling for their lives,the police said. Ravinder was stabbed by a father-son duo around 8.30 pm when he was going to deliver food to his father at his workplace. The victim told the police that without any provocation,the accused stabbed him in the chest and fled the spot. Meanwhile,Dalbeer,who works as a barber,was stabbed by four persons,who came to his shop around 7 pm. Separate cases of causing grievous hurt,criminal intimidation and acts done in connivance with common intention were registered against the assailants who were still at large.

50-year-old hit by train dies
DERA BASSI: A 50-year-old unidentified person lost his life after he was run over by a train on the Ambala-Kalka railway track in Dera Bassi on Friday. The body has been kept at the Civil Hospital in Dera Bassi for identification. The deceased was wearing a white kurta-pyjama and brown sweater.

Foundation of HC archive centre laid
The Punjab Governor and UT Administrator General (Retd) S F Rodrigues,laid the foundation stone of the Central Judicial Archive for the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Industrial Area Phase — II on Friday. Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur,and other judges of the High Court; Home Secretary Ram Niwas and other senior officers of the judiciary and Chandigarh Administration were present on the occasion. This project has been conceived to accommodate the judicial records presently housed in a large building close to the main High Court building,in an area of about one acre in Industrial Area Phase II. All modern means of information technology and best practices for record management will be introduced. The two-storeyed building will have two basements in the first phase,which can further be developed upto 4 floors. The basement of the complex will be accessible through a motorable ramp,to allow easy movement of the huge quantity of records.  

Book on Rock Garden released
The book titled ‘Rock Garden: A vision of creativity’ authored by V P Mehta and Nek Chand,the creator and director of the Rock Garden,was released on Friday by Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur. Home Secretary Ram Niwas welcomed the guests. Chief Justice Thakur said: “I feel privileged for being chosen to release the book. Nek Chand is a humble person and has proved with his creations that even stones can communicate. After my retirement,I would like to write a book on him.” He also thanked Ram Niwas for holding several cultural events in Chandigarh. An author of nine books,V P Mehta took a year to write his latest book and most of photographs used in the book are also clicked by him. The vote of thanks was proposed by Chief Engineer,UT Administration,Surinder Pal.

Doctor couple booked for fraud
The daughter and son-in-law of an 80-year-old woman have been booked in a case of fraud on Friday. They had withdrawn around Rs 47 lakh from a joint account. Rajinder Kaur Ahluwalia had lodged a complained against her daughter Suneet Tayal and son-in-law Arun Tayal. Both of them are doctors at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital,Sector 16. 

Pedestrian hit by motorcycle dies
A pedestrian,Niayama of Vikas Nagar in Mauli Jagran,was hit by a motorcycle near Sector 36-42 around 1 pm on Wednesday. She later succumbed to her injuries at PGI Hospital. The police arrested the motorcyclist,Sanjay,who was later released on bail.

Two cellphone snatchers held
The police arrested two mobile phone snatchers from Sector 14-15,when they were trying to flee after snatching the mobile phone of a Panjab University student.

Second mobile medical unit launched
The National Rural Health Mission in collaboration with Shubkarman Health Care Society has launched the second Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) to cover the outreach areas of Chandigarh including the slums and the rural areas.

Conference on endoscopic surgery kicks off
Air Marshal A S Chahal,retired director,Indian Air Force Medical Services,inaugurated the International Conference on Endoscopic and Spine Surgery on Friday. Dr Jean Destandau,from Bordeaux,France,the pioneer of endoscopic surgery technique,delivered a lecture on Friday,the first day of the conference. Chandigarh Chapter of Indian Orthopedic Association is organising the conference. A surgery being conducted by a team led by Dr Mohinder Kaushal,under supervision of Dr Jean Destandau,was also telecast live.
