Man found murdered
JALANDHAR:A medical practitioner,Surinder Singh,was found murdered in Kartarpur near here on Tuesday. He was missing since Monday. Surinder ran a clinic in Bhogpur,25 kilometres from Jalandhar city,while he was residing in Jalandhar. Last night,when he didnt return home till late,his family reported to the police. His body was found on Tuesday with wounds inflicted with sharp-edged weapons. The deceased was also involved in the property dealing business and an old dispute might be the reason behind his killing,a police officer said. A case has been registered.
PRO association reconstituted
The Punjab Public Relations Officers Association has been reconstituted. The team headed by Harjeet Singh Grewal,DPRO,Ropar,was on Tuesday elected unanimously as the governing body for a period of two years. Grewal is the new president,Shikha Nehra,PRO,has been elected as senior vice-president,Satnam Singh Chinna (DPRO,Tarn Taran) as vice-president,Ajit Kanwal Singh (PRO to Chief Minister) as general secretary,K L Rattu (PRO,Production) as finance secretary.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday approved the proposed investment plans of Brattle Foods Limited,giving them the green signal to set up their three mega units with an investment of Rs 800 crore in the dairy,meat,fruits and vegetable processing sectors. The company plans to establish a Rs 300-crore dairy unit,Rs 400-crore meat processing unit and a Rs 100-crore fruits and vegetable processing unit,over about 200 acre in the next three to five years.
Farmers protest against PSEB
KHARAR:Hundreds of farmers,under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhu),staged a dharna in front of the office of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Senior Executive Engineer here on Tuesday. They submitted a charter of demands to the Senior Executive Engineer for forwarding to the PSEB chairman. The main demands included increaing power supply to farm sector from present 3 hours to 8 hours daily.
2 IAS officers shifted
The state government on Tuesday transferred two IAS officers. According to orders issued by the state personnel department,Jasbir Singh Bir has been posted as Director-cum-Secretary Cultural Affairs,Museums and Archives; and Raminder Singh has been transferred as Commissioner,Ferozepur,and also been given additional charge of Commissioner,Faridkot.
