Sohit Sharma (16),a resident of Jaggi colony in Ambala City,died after he was run over by a train while he was crossing the tracks near Dhulkot railway station early on Friday morning. The body was sent for a postmortem by the GRP. According to Sohit’s parent,he had left home saying that he was going to a friend’s house for studies.

On lines of TOEFL,Pearson launches its own test
To offer wider choice of language proficiency tests to candidates,UK-based Pearson Education Services has launched its own Pearson Test of English. The test is similar to other tests like IELTS,TOEFL and GRE. Announcing its launch at a press meet on Friday,John K Philip said the Pearson Test of English is recognised by several universities in the UK,Australia,Brazil and Canada among others. He said that the test is a computer-based academic test that will test the students’ ability across various parameters like reading,writing,listening and speaking.

Mohali ITI girl student ‘kidnapped’
A student of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Mohali,Jagdeep Kaur,has gone missing since February 2. Her father Manjit Singh,a resident of Durali village in Mohali,has filed a kidnapping complaint against a Dabwali-based youth. He approached the police after all efforts of her family to trace her proved futile. Singh reported to the police that his daughter,aged around 20 years,was pursuing a stitching course at the ITI in Phase V. Singh alleged that he had got information that Bunty,alias Happy,had abducted his daughter with an intention to force her to marry him. The police have registered a case under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC against the accused.

Foetus found abandoned
A foetus was found abandoned at Chintgarh village in Mohali on Thursday evening. Raghubir Singh of Chintgarh village reported to the police that he was going towards Bhoopnagar village when he saw some persons gathered near the fields of one Tarlochan Singh. “Chintgarh village sarpanch Gurmukh Singh,who was also present there,told me that somebody had dumped a foetus and fled the spot,” he reported. The police have recovered the foetus and sent it to Civil Hospital for medical examination. A case under Section 318 of the IPC has been registered against unidentified person(s).

Industrial exhibition at Parade Ground
Chandikrit-2010,an industrial and business exhibition,was inaugurated by UT Adviser Pradip Mehra at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 on Friday. Exhibitors from all fields showcased their products to create awareness and rope in clients. The stalls have household items,handicrafts,fibre goods,electrical items,kitchenware and sanitary ware on display. A number of cultural items were also presented.

Boy injured as lintel falls in under-construction building,contractor booked
A boy was injured when a piece of lintel fell on him at an under-construction building in Sector 35 on Thursday evening. Bhavneet had gone to celebrate the birthday of his relative when the mishap occurred. He has been admitted to PGI. The police have booked the contractor Ramesh and Jaswant Singh under Sections 336,337 and 34 of IPC.
