An immigration company owner reportedly shot dead himself inside a private bank in Sector 68, Mohali on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the preliminary information, the deceased, Rajdeep Singh, visited the bank around noon. He went to the loan department on the first floor and entered the washroom, where he allegedly shot himself in the temple with a revolver. The sound of gunfire created panic inside the bank. When employees rushed to the washroom, they discovered his body lying in a pool of blood. The police control room was immediately alerted.
SHO of Phase 8 police station Satnam Singh reached the spot with his team, took the body into custody, and sent it to the Civil Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Rajdeep reportedly ran immigration offices in Phase 11 and Sector 82. So far, the reasons behind the drastic step remain unclear. Police are recording statements from his family members to establish if he was under any financial or personal pressure.
Police have recovered the revolver used in the incident. Efforts are underway to ascertain whether the weapon was licensed and, if so, whether it was registered in Rajdeep’s name or someone else’s.
Since the incident took place inside a bank, investigators are also probing whether the deceased had any disputes with bank officials or whether the matter was related to a loan.
